Description
Color image, probably from Sunday Magazine. Depicts about ten men sewing and preparing their elaborate Mummers costumes. Caption reads: "Philadelphia plebians, banded in clubs totaling 20,000 members, spend up to $100,000 on costumes and floats for annual Mummers Parade on New Year's Day. The tradition has been traced back to the mid-17th century. Parade may be repeated for Republican Convention."
