Juntos: La Casa de los Soles: "Self-Empowerment with Juntos" — An Interview with Valeska Garay
Juntos is a community organization located in South Philadelphia. It serves a Latino immigrant population, primarily composed of some of the 12,000 – 20,000 Mexicans located in the neighborhood. Juntos, a nonprofit, works to strengthen the community with social, cultural, and political empowerment. Originally founded in 2002 as a volunteer project associated with Women Organized Against Rape (WOAR), the organization grew with the demands and needs of community members. Today, Juntos is located in the Houston Community Center at 8th and Snyder, and continues to advance self-mobilization by teaching literacy, technology, and leadership skills to some of South Philadelphia’s more recent residents.
