Description
Caption reads: Russian born Mateusas Barcas thinks his native land is doing "pretty good" in its struggle against the Germans, but it is largely "because we helped them." One hundred percent American, Barcas doesn't get his parts of speech mixed up. "We" are Americans. "Them" are the Russians. he makes it even plainer when he says simply: "This country is my mother." Barcas, an elevator operator at the Pennsylvania Sugar Company refinery, Delaware Ave. and Shackamaxon St., has been 43 years in the USA, 26 years a worker in the sugar house.
