Il Progresso former office

by Historical Society of Pennsylvania

Since many Italian immigrants could not read English, they relied on Italian language newspapers for both news of Italy and important information on job openings in this country. Il Progresso, which began in 1906 as L'Opinione, was published until 1989. Later 814 South 8th served as the office of the Philadelphia Exclusive and Jersey Cape Journal, and was converted to a multi-family duplex in 2009.
