Curtis Publishing Plant

by Historical Society of Pennsylvania

Established in 1888 by Cyrus Curtis, Curtis Publishing was America's premier publisher of popular mass-circulation magazines like the Ladies Home Journal and the Saturday Evening Post. Based in Philadelphia, Curtis Publishing employed many immigrants here at its massive printing facility. This building has been converted into luxury condominiums and renamed the "Lofts at Bella Vista," reflecting the citywide conversion of former industrial spaces into high-end residential and retail complexes. A new luxury town home complex is situated a few blocks down, near 2nd Street and the Mummers Museum.
